There are two things that are vital to both longevity and living fully. (Well, there are many, it’s true, but there are two on my ‘favorites’ list.) One is brain health and the other is sexual vitality.
If you don’t believe how critical these are, you might want to read Dr. Daniel Amen’s book Sex on the Brain. He quotes several studies (not his own) that show how reduced sexual activity leads to reduced brain function, more depression, more pain, more sickness and a shorter life span. Sexual activity releases endorphins, regulates glandular secretions, improves memory and reduces stress.
Dr. Amen and his team have conducted over 35,000 brain scans of old and young, healthy and sick, depressed and happy, addicted patients, meditating patients, victims of abuse, violence and falling in love. His clinic has the world’s largest database of brain scans. And if he says frequent sex makes people live longer, and with better mental capabilities, I am willing to take him at his word.
